We all like to think we are honest people.
But total honesty is rare.
Really.
Let’s unpack it.
A liar … liar liar pants on fire
Oh to be called a liar!
See a liar is a very specific thing.
A lie is not simply not telling the truth, it’s crafting a fabrication.
It’s many times premeditated, though sometimes unconscious or reactionary.
A lie is a fiction.
Something that purposefully obscures truth.
There are many reasons why people lie.
To get something.
To avoid taking responsibility.
To hide something.
Sometimes they create a lie to not have to look at themselves deep within themselves.
Then there is dishonesty.
People are wildly dishonest in general.
Dishonesty doesn’t have to be intentional.
It’s just where we aren’t actually being true.
Not saying the true thing when it’s true is a form of dishonesty.
Omitting information is a form of dishonesty.
Not saying anything is a form of dishonesty.
What does this include?
Harboring resentments.
Fawning.
Saying yes when you mean no.
Avoiding conflict.
What a commitment it is to be honest.
To meet every moment and say what’s true in that moment.
To live like the truth is the most important thing.
To not fear ANY consequence that the truth brings.
Oh the practice that it is to live truth to truth to truth.
And the practice of speaking truth to truth to truth is yet another level.
Being honest is a practice of embodying and speaking truth.
Take that definition of honesty and it certainly raises the bar.
