I am deeply saddened by what the issue of abortion shows us about who we are as a people.
I will never believe the relationship between a woman and her womb is the business of the government.
It’s just too misogynistic for me and it lacks a level of compassionate nuance that is required for such a deeply intimate topic.
One of the many reasons I feel that this topic is outside the realm of government reach is partly because I believe we need to have a general consensus agreement on a subject in order to create laws concerning it.
The fact is that the vast majority of Americans do not believe abortion is murder. If we can’t agree on a general premise to measure a law I don’t think you can create a law. Otherwise what you have is the moral doctrine of some part of the population telling the rest of the population how it should live according to their laws and beliefs.
This is fundamentally not how the Founders intended the country to be run.
But this issue, a deeply complex Feminine issue of life and death, under the lens of black and white Masculine thinking has become used as a distorted power grab. Talk about extraction.
But oh my deeply lost Feminists. You have lost your way. I have never seen women more numb and disembodied as when they talk about their unwanted pregnancies, screaming against the Patriarchy that they should have the right to suck their fetuses out in the name of pursuing Corporate jobs.
On the other side religious women screaming bloody murder and having no compassion for the number of reasons that it might be a heart breaking choice for some women but an important choice to have. Sometimes between a bad choice and a terrible choice.
It is time we really step into our responsibility as women and mothers to educate our girls that they are responsible for the sex they have.
That they are capable of tracking and learning their cycles.
That abortion is not in fact a way to keep being irresponsible over and over again.
And can we see the farce of a society that says they want to protect life yet has little to know care for the welfare of those children once born.
A “pro life” movement obsessed with stopping abortion but who also want to get rid rid of the EPA. You never hear the anti abortion right petitioning chemical companies and retailers about all the toxins eroding fertility.
The religious right can’t stop abortion.
Laws can’t stop abortion.
God can’t even stop abortion because this is the realm of free will.
It is the realm of choice.
And yet we always have to pay the piper for the choices we make.
May women and girls rise above needing permission from the Patriarchy.
May we grow up and deepen our embodiment.
May we have compassion for the nuances of other Women’s choices that we not agree with or understand.
But May we all stop looking to the government to save and protect us.
